The initial image of Earth, seen from space, resonated deeply with the early environmental movement, crystallising in the iconic "blue planet" metaphor: a cosmic treasure we are entrusted to protect in common. Yet, are we truly fulfilling this stewardship? The climate predicament has dramatically shifted our perception of the planet, highlighting ecological tipping points and boundaries we are reluctant to cross, alongside the anxiety of lacking the planetary institutions needed to bring global climate change under control. On Wednesday, 4 December, from 16:00-18:30, the department's roundtable of this winter semester will take place in our department's library.

We warmly invite all members of the department and especially all students of our BA and MA programmes to join us in an open dialogue and exchange perspectives on the field of anthropology. While enjoying coffee and Christmas cookies, we would like to talk about the following topics above all:

  • How to reconnect students to act as "Fachschaft" ?

We will use English and German in the talks and support each other in translating.

Leaving infrastructural constraints of seminar rooms as well as audit concerns behind, we would like to invite you to dream together about seminar utopias. What do we aspire the ideal seminar to look like?

The roundtable will be held in English and German. We are aware that for many this is not the native language, and we support each other in translating.

Film Screening: A King in China

The director, Paul Harris, will be present to introduce his film and discuss the film-making process. Paul worked in production and then as a sound and camera operator to gain experience before venturing out to make his own films. He will touch on aspects of film-making such as directing, producing and rights, as well as about his experiences as a film-maker in China >> read more
