Professional Internships

If you are a master student of cultural and social anthropology, acquiring profession-oriented work experience through internships is a voluntary, self-organized achievement. Under the BA in Cultural and Social Anthropology programme (launched in WiSe 2007/08), it forms part of the additional module <Ergänzungmodul> on ethnological knowledge in research and professional practice – “EthnologischesWissen in der Forschungs- und Berufspraxis”. The module is coordinated by Dr. Arno Pascht. We highly recommend both our master and bachelor students to absolve at least one intenship or empirical research project.

A professional internship serves the purpose of acquainting students with the practical uses of ethnological education. Internships are feasible in any field of work that recognizably involves anthropological issues – for instance, in anthropological museums such as the Cologne Rautenstrauch-Joest Museum, in development aid organizations, in institutions for intercultural collaboration, in editorial offices, or in the domain of child and youth education (see also SUM project), to mention only a few.
